COPING WITH TRAUMA

Traumatic events are unexpected and shocking and it is normal to feel as though your world has been upside down. Often people feel very vulnerable and afraid. Familiar world suddenly seems threatening and uncertain.

You may experience some of the things that listed below:
Insomnia, bad dreams, crying, stomach upsets, loss or increase in appetite, smoking more, headaches, backache, dizziness, shaking, panic attacks, unable to stop thinking about the event, feeling of persecution, difficulty concentrating.

Experiencing any of these feelings are all normal and usual responses to traumatic experiences and they will vary in intensity and frequency. Most people will begin to feel better in time, but if you are still experiencing any of the symptoms listed above after six weeks I will recommend you seek professional help.

Here are some coping strategies:

* Give yourself time to recover.

* Get regular exercise to reduce the level of stress hormones.

* Feed yourself well and get lots of sleep.

* Make room for reflection to come to term with terrifying event.
